Para la gente sin estatus migratorio, Toronto no es una ciudad acogedora. Es el centro de negocios Canadiense y el hogar de la maquinaria de guerra. Es una ciudad donde la gente indocumentada vive y trabaja bajo condiciones brutales de explotación. Es una ciudad donde la gente sin estatus migratorio es expulsada de escuelas y hospitales, sin la posibilidad de acceder a vivienda además de vivir del constate acoso de los oficiales migratorios y policía municipal. Para todos ellos sin estatus migratorio, Toronto es una fábrica de explotación.

Nos negamos a callar! Ven y unete a organizadores de la comunidad alrededor de Norte America para desmantelar la ciudad explotadora y construir una comunidad segura para todos!

Manos y Lenguas Libres 2, Verano 2008 / Summer 2008

Hola Mujeres!

Ha pasado ya algún tiempo desde nuestra última actualización de este blog, pero aquí estamos de regreso para contarles de lo que hemos estado haciendo.

Primero, el reporte de lo que fue MANOS Y LENGUAS LIBRES 2.

En el marco de la celebración del PRIDE 2008, se llevó acabo el domingo 22 de junio el festival “Manos y lenguas libres 2”, un espacio de arte y cultura para las mujeres pertenecientes a la comunidad lésbica, bisexual, intersex, queer, y personas transgénero.

El evento se realizó en el Gladstone Hotel y fue organizado por “Mujeres al Frente”, un grupo de de mujeres provenientes de México, Centro y Sur América. La actividad comenzó a las 8:30 de la noche con la presentación de Matadanze, que fue seguida de un ‘sketch’ promoviendo el sexo seguro entre mujeres, y por la lectura de una declaración lanzada en el foro de liderazgo político de la mujer latinoamericana acerca de las mujeres solicitantes de refugio exigiendo el respeto a sus derechos humanos.

Luego, la noche siguió con ‘esketches’ y lecturas de poesía erótica por Ana Cisneros, y de Woman Bookstore Janet Romero, un monólogo, y ‘performance’ de Drag King. A continuación se presentó una exposición de fotografía de Alexandra Gelis y Gaby Cueto, así como escultura en madera de Alejandra Vallejo, ‘short films’ de Alex Flores, y todo esto amenizado por la DJAlejandra Sifontes.

Durante la noche hubo varias sorpresas que mantuvieron a los espectadores divertidos y entusiasmados por el show y por la conductora de la actividad Miset Parata. También estuvo compartiendo el escenario la cantautora mexicana Paty Ibarra, quien nos llevó al romanticismo de la trova.
Cerrando la noche se hizo homenaje a 6 mujeres activistas, feministas, lesbianas, provenientes de Latinoamérica, por su trabajo en la lucha por los derechos humanos de la mujer con un video donde nos platican su vida, su lucha y su activismo. Les fueron entregados reconocimientos por parte de integrantes de Mujeres al Frente. La dirección de videos fue realizada por Laura Guerrero, en entrevistas Verónica Bravo, y en cámara Liliana Chávez.

A la actividad asistieron alrededor de 300 personas, y tal como inició fue cerrado con una nueva presentación de Matadanze.

Queer, Guest Fest

Mujeres al Frente is going to participate in a panel discussion that in which we will talk about international lesbian and gay human rights, we hope to see you there,

June 24th - Lesbian and Gay Human Rights Panel Discussion
Tuesday June 24th - A Java Knights - An International Lesbian and Gay Human Rights Panel Discussion @ Gladstone Hotel Art Bar 1214 Queen St. W. Find out about equality issues for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people and their liberation from all forms of discrimination in other countries. Learn about supportive and education programs, protest actions, diplomatic pressures, from representatives on the panel.

Three of five panelists on board so far: Carolina Gama from Mujeres al Frente support group for Latin American LBTIQ - George Harvey from LGBT Amnesty International Toronto and Nick Mulé, formerly of Amnesty International. Nick got Sexual orientation included in the purview of Amnesty International

Welcome to our blog!

We are finally here to post some updates about the Group, News and lots of Info that we want to share with you!

As some of you know on June 2007 we presented the new name of the Group during the celebration of PRIDE in Toronto where we all enjoy the first edition of "Manos y Lenguas Libres" (Unrestrained Hands & Tongues) which is an open space to exhibit the artistic expresion of Latin- American LBTIQ Women and Transgender Persons.

Right now we are working on the produccion on the second edition of this event, this time with focus on Erotic Art. It will be on Sunday June 22nd at 7pm at the Gladstone Hotel, on 1214 Queen St West.

There will be Music, Poetry Reading, Photo Exhibit, Art, Drag King Performance, Short Films, Erotic Dance, and the performance of a mexican songwriter Patty Ibarra and lots more.

There we all will start to celebrate the PRIDE WEEK 2008 called "UNIFIED".

You are all invited to join us and enjoy the ART of Latin-American LBTIQ Community. Bring all your friends, remember this is a free admission event.
